“Because We Live & Breathe This Stuff”

Through his networking at clubs and social media sites he caught the attention of Warren G’s previous G Funk Records artist Foesum. Through his relationship with Foesum, Zone linked up with many other west coast artist, eventually landing his first American placement on Bo Rocc of The Dove Shack’ album “My Music, My Soul.”

In 2007 DJ Zone completed his first solo album “Tha G-Funk In Me”, which featured many West Coast pioneers such as Daz Dillinger, Kokane, Bad Azz, Shade Sheist, The Twinz, Foesum and more – the album went on to receive positive reviews across Europe and Japan.

Following the success of “Tha G-Funk In Me” Zone continued a working relationship with Kokane and in 2009 Kokane introduced DJ Zone to West Coast Hip-Hop producer J. Wells. Earlier this year J. Wells signed Zone to his Bonzi Records imprint and has been working with Zone to complete his second album “Rhythm & Passion” which is set to fearure WC, Kokane, Roscoe, Julio G, Goldie Loc, Soopafly and more. The album will also be mixed and Executive Produced by J Wells.

Kokane has been involved with the West Coast rap scene since the dawn of gangsta rap and has stayed consistant in the industry for 20 years.

In the year 2000, he played a major role in the success of Snoop Dogg’s Tha Last Meal. His eccentric vocal approach is half fluid rapping and half weird P-funk-influenced singing. This balance made Kokane a perfect choice to lay down the vocal hooks for Snoop’s album, as he appeared on nine of the album’s 19 tracks.

The son of Motown staff composer Jerry Long (“Ball of Confusion,” “Just My Imagination,” “Still Waters Run Deep”), Kokane’s life has always included music, though it is the old school funk of the ’70s that most influences his style. He began his career as a vocalist in the mid-’80s as rap was first appearing in his native Los Angeles before eventually signing to Eazy-E’s Ruthless Records label in 1991.

In addition to co-writing “Appetite for Destruction” for NWA’s Niggaz4life, Kokane also contributed to other West Coast gangsta rap albums such as Above the Law’s Black Mafia Life. His first solo single, “Nickel Slick Nigga,” appeared on the Deep Cover soundtrack as well as his debut album for Ruthless, Who Am I.

It was on the L.A. posse track found on Dr. Dre’s 2001 album, “Some L.A. Niggaz,” that Kokane scored big; this encounter with Dre’s camp led to his relationship with Snoop, who signed him to Dogghouse Records, bringing a renewed sense of promise to Kokane’s long-running career.

There has been a surge in demand for J. Wells after having his tracks featured on hit taste-maker shows such as, The Sopranos and Six Feet Under, and F. Gary Gray’s blockbuster film and soundtrack Be Cool. J’s songs are also featured in the video games: EA Sports, 2004 Tiger?Woods Golf and EA Sports, 2006 Fight Night, as well as commercials for major corporations including McDonalds, Smirnoff, Starbucks, and Coors Light. J. Wells has also produced tracks for Goodie Mob, Snoop Dogg’s EP/DVD The Adventures of The Blue Carpet Treatment and the title track “Work It Out,” for Keyshia Cole’s 2007 release Just Like You.

J. Wells is also in the studio working with Ne-Yo, Bone Thugs, Kat Williams, Rah Digga, D-12, Dogg Pound, Nate Dogg, Rakim, DJ Quik, Canibus, Nicole Wray, Dead Prez, Angie Stone, Bobby Valentino, Da Brat and Tyrese, amongst others…

Currently, J. Wells is gearing up to release his second album Digital Master Vol. 2.1, which will be released on 4-14-09 and will feature appearances from Snoop Dogg, Estelle, Kurupt, Da Brat, WC, Roscoe, Tha Liks, Rah Digga and Mack 10.
